Sunday Table 7

Sunday Table 7 -- Our table for Sunday, December 2, 2012

One of my goals for 2012 was to set a pretty table each Sunday.

When September came around, I realized I needed to get my act together,

and really make my goal happen! I'm glad that I decided to blog about it, because

I think that has helped me stick with my goal!

I'm happy to report that I've consistently set a pretty Sunday table for almost 2 months!

{*I'll explain the sleigh centerpiece below.}

For the most part, this table is set with things we've had for many years.

{I think the napkin rings and the felt mats are the only things I'm

using for the first time -- less than $20 spent on those.}

One thing I love about tables and dishes, is that you can change things around

and make everything look new!  And it doesn't have to cost much.

Usually, it doesn't have to cost anything if you are just using what you have!

And treasure hunting for clearance items

makes finding inexpensive items a fun adventure.

Here is a list of where I found items in my tablescape:
Sleigh -- Hobby Lobby
{clearance several years ago -- basically free}
Green dear & tree dishes -- Target {forever ago}
Napkins -- TJ Maxx {I LOVE plaid!}
Red snowflake mats [felt] --
Tuesday Morning during the summer {clearance}
White chargers -- Pier One
Glasses and flatware -- BB&B
The napkin rings were also from BB&B {clearance} this summer.
I got them for .99 each specifically with these dishes in mind.

*Centerpiece Idea

The centerpiece is actually a great idea that came my way several years ago,
and I love it.  We try to use the idea during the months of December & January.
Some people use the idea for the entire year -- which I find touching, and impressive.
Basically you fill a basket [or other object] with your Christmas cards.
Then when you sit down as a family to eat dinner,
you celebrate those wonderful people in your life.
You lovingly talk about each specific card  & the sender[s].
You talk about how they have blessed your lives.
You can also pray for them in your meal prayer.
Isn't that a lovely tradition?

We've already received a dozen beautiful greetings.
I'm looking forward to our sharing them with our family tomorrow.
 Here are the tables that I have done up until now:

Sunday Table 6

Here is our Sunday Table set for tomorrow.

deer plates, flatware, napkins [Tuesday Morning -- various years]
deer place cards [Hobby Lobby -- a few years back]
aqua plates [America Thrift]
round place mats [TJ Maxx]
tablecloth, stemware & candlesticks* [BB&B]
white chargers [Pier One]
solid plates [Tai Pan]

A close-up of one of the deer plates -- they are all a little different.
 I really, really love these plates!  Wish I had a dozen of them!
Somewhere they were described as 'Snow White meets Narnia'!
Such a great description!

*Today I spray painted the candlesticks aqua,
 and splattered a little white on them for a snowy look.
They were originally gold.
I've had them for several years.
{I love how they look with our aqua deer plates.}

I wrote a post 'Oh Deer!' in January 2010
about my love of deer themed dishes.
I'll be using them a lot during the months of December & January.
Trying to find new creative ways to use them.
{One of the sets I bought from a Target in California in the late 90s.
I've carried that fun after-Christmas-find all across the country & back again!}

Sunday Table 1

One of my 2012 goals was to set a beautiful table each Sunday!
Since this is October -- and this is the first tablescape I'm posting --
you might get a feel for just how unsuccessful I have been with this specific goal!
But hey, there is still one quarter of 2012...so I can still set several pretty tables!
Right?

We have a square table, which for some unknown reason, I always think
our table is particularly hard to decorate.  But it really isn't!
Rectangle placemats overlap, so I'm a little limited to round placemats and chargers.

I put a charger on a cake stand for the centerpiece.
Candle sticks were from Hobby Lobby several years ago.
Velvet pumpkins I bought last year.

I always keep an eye out for 90 inch round tablecloths.
{It is SO HARD to find pretty square tablecloths!}
This one looks like burlap, but it isn't -- it has a pretty weave,
and is really rather soft.
I found it at Bed Bath & Beyond.

I love it when people post where they found their table treasures.
Let me see if I can remember where mine came from:
Flatware, stemware, tablecloth, and salad plates - Bed Bath & Beyond
Chargers and napkin rings - Pier One
Solid color plates - Tai Pan Trading {last year}
Napkins - Tuesday Morning

Cheers to working on goals -- even last quarter!
